Ajmer, Rajasthan

Ajmer is a wonderful historic city located in the heart of the Rajasthan deserts. The city is famous worldwide for its Hindu and Islamic monuments. Rich history of Ajmer attracts tourists from all over the world. The Ajmer tour is a complete package of exploring the historic and traditional values of this spiritual city. This place is situated at the foot of the magnificent Aravali mountain range. The city was set up by Ajaipal Chauhan, a ruler of the Chauhan dynasty in 1100 Ads. In 1193 AD Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Mohammad Ghauri in a war and lost the kingdom of Ajmer.

Climate: Summer season is extremely hot in Ajmer requiring light cotton clothes. In winter season bone-chilling cold winds are blowing so carry lots of super warm wears.

Dargah Sharif

Location: 2 kms from Ajmer city center

Best month to visit:  November to March

Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is the main spiritual spot of Ajmer. People come here from all over the world irrespective of their religion and caste. The famous Mughal emperor Akbar came here barefoot to pray. This is actually the burial spot of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, a very Famous Sufi saint. This place is considered as Mecca of South Asia as Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti lived here between 1192 and 1236 AD. This is a wonderful architectural structure made from marble and silver.

Adhai Din ka Jhonpra

Location: 2km from Ajmer city

Best month to visit: November to March

Adhai-din ka Jhonpra is a very religious and remarkable tourist spot of Ajmer. Initially it was a Jain sanctuary and Sanskrit University. Muhammad Ghori converted it into a mosque. This mosque was built in only two and a half day so people called it Adhai-din ka Jhonpra. Architecture of this place is a lovely combination of Hindu Muslim structural designs.

Lal Mandir

Location: 4.7 km from city in Adarsh nagar

Best month to visit: All days of the week (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Lal mandir is a Jain temple constructed over 100 years ago. It is also known as Red Temple or Soniji ki Nasiyan. This temple is devoted to the first Jain Tirthankara. This stunning design is build with the use of precious stones, gold and silver. The beauty of the temple can’t be explained in words. Images and art structure of this temple describe the mythologies of Jains.

Ana Sagar River

Location:  Around 13 km from the main city of Ajmer

Best month to visit: October and March

This beautiful lake was built by King Arnoraja, grandfather of Prithivi Raj Chauhan, in 1135-1150 AD. Later some extra construction was made by Mughal emperors to revamp it. The lake is surrounded by Daulat bagh, which was made by Jehangir, and Khobra Behroon temple.

Taragarh Fort

Location: 169 kms from Ajmer city

Best month to visit: All days of the week (9:00 am - 6:30 pm)

This amazing and historic fort was constructed by Ajaipal Chauhan in the 7th century. The fort is located on a hill and offers a spectacular view of the Ajmer city. This incredible monument is also known by name of Star Fort.
