Daman-Diu (Union Territory)

Daman - Diu is a dream land for beach lovers. It is the second smallest union territory of India and Daman is the capital of this union territory. It is located on the western coast of India and an incredible holiday destination of India. The culture at Daman and Diu is a perfect blend of Portuguese and Indian ethos creating a rare combination. A number of amazing tourist spots in the place attract people from all over the world.

Climate: Weather is very cool and pleasant throughout the year. Both summer and winter weather is almost same. In Diu summers are hotter in contrast to Daman. Visitors are recommended to carry normal cotton and a few warm clothes with them.

Moti Daman Fort

Location: 1.5 km from Daman

Visiting Hours: open 24 hrs all days of week

Moti Daman Fort is an exclusive tourist spot. It is a huge fort having two gateways and ten Bastions. A beautiful garden was made in the fort, the Pargola Garden meant to catch the attention of tourists. This garden was made in the memory of Portuguese soldiers who sacrificed their lives in battle. The fort itself was made nearly four hundred years ago and is really huge housing numerous government offices, schools and homes. Offering a panoramic view of the sea, the fort has two lighthouses too, the new and the old. People are allowed only to view the old one, the entry to the new one is prohibited due to security issues. A profound reflection of history, the fort offers a great walk into the past and is worth a visit for its old world charm.

Chakratirth Beach Diu

Location: Diu

Best Month to visit:  October to May

Chakratirth beach is a beautiful beach located at the centre of town. This is a must visit place in Diu. People believe that at this place Lord Krishna slaughtered the demon Jalandhar with his Sudarshan Chakra. It is famous for its tepid water, sand and amazing atmosphere. If you really want to enjoy the scenic and charming beauty of a beach then this place is perfect for you. The beach offers great appeal and serene atmosphere brimming with fun, excitement and pleasure.

Devka Beach

Location: Daman

Best month to visit: October to February

Devka beach is a spectacular place to relax and indulge in playful activities. This blackish beach with its pristine beauty attracts people of all age groups. There is a wonderful amusement park for children. You can also enjoy water fountain in the park. The beautiful, untarnished sand of the beach looks fabulous during the evening. The picturesque charm of the beach along with numerous fun and gaming activities, food stalls, hotels and resorts add to the joy and wonder of the place.

Bom Jesus Church

Location: Fort area in Moti Daman

Visiting Hours: Open every day from 4pm to 8pm

Bom Jesus is a famous holy place located in Moti Daman. It was built in 1603. It is a very big and gorgeous church. An imposing structure, it reflects the glorious past of the place with its Roman style architecture, delicately carved interiors, gateways and wooden altars. Inside the church, six statues of Revered saints stand tall representing the artistic mastery of the Portuguese. Visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year especially during the Christmas season, it is a must visit for its enthralling beauty and religious value.

Diu Fort

Location: 1km from city center, near Collectorate office

Visiting Hours: Open 8am to 6pm

Diu fort is a massive historical structure constructed in 1535. This amazing fort was made by the Portuguese in alliance with Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat in defense against the Mughals. Today, it is very well maintained by the Government of India. Three sides of the fort are surrounded by sea. From the top of the fort you can see a fantastic view of Arabian Sea.  You can see a number of mounds of iron shells in the fort. A prominent structure that stands in the fort is the light house. The impressive fort provides an insight into the rich historic past of the place along with a wonderful view making it a must visit on your trip to Diu.
