The picturesque hill station Kausani, with its spectacular view of the Himalayas, is flanked by the rivers Kosi and Gomti. Sitting atop the Pingnath Peak, the small town is full of deep and dense pine forests and tea gardens around it. Being not so well known like other hill stations, Kausani offers a breath-taking view of the Himalayan peaks of Trishul, Panchchuli and Nanda Devi.
The astounding views make Kausani more popular than other hill station in the region. The settlements of the Katyuri valley, the river Gomti and the snow-clad peaks of Panchachuli, Nanda Kot, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba and Kedarnathare well displayed by Kausani.
Kausani has gained fame also as the birth place of Sumitra Nandan Pant, who is a famous Hindi poet. He was so impressed by Kausani’s natural beauty that he penned down some memorable poems in the praise of this heaven on earth. When ‘Bapu’ Mahatma Gandhi stayed in Kausani at Anasakti Ashram for fourteen days to write his book named ‘Anasakti Yog’, he was overwhelmed by Kausani’s scenic beauty.

Climate:Pleasing climate for most part of the year, though summers are warm and winters are extremely cold.In summers, light woolen clothes are preferable. If you visit here in winters, bring along heavy woolen clothes, caps, gloves and mufflers.

The name ‘Bageshwar’ is originated from Bagnath, which is a famous temple in this region. It is believed that Lord Shiva had wandered here in the form of a tiger. So, Bagnath is a centre of attraction of many pilgrims every year. It is well-known for its scenic beauty, glaciers, rivers and temples. The most astounding feature of this beautiful hill station is that it is situated on the confluence of Saryu and Gomti rivers. Bageshwar is also famous as the administrative headquarters of Bageshwar district.
Location: 1 km from Kausani bus stand
Timings: Open all seven days from 8.30 a.m.- 6.30 p.m.
How to reach: You can go there easily on foot, by sharing taxi or private vehicles.
Connecting Mahatma Gandhi’s stay here at this very ashram in 1929, it still inspires visitors by its blissful beauty of this picturesque hamlet. Gandhiji had written about Geeta-Anasakti Yog, after getting inspired from this ashram. This ashram is a simple white-washed cottage, engraved with the teachings of Gandhiji. Several quotes and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi can be seen embossed all around it, awakening the spiritual self of the tourists. You can also stay here in its accommodation of 24 rooms, with an attached library and kitchen provided along with them.
Rudradhari Falls and Caves
Location: About 2 kms from Kantali village on the Kausani - Almora road
Timings: Best time is from May to September, January-February
How to reach: Hire a taxi from Kausani to Kantali village, then reach there by 2 km trekking.
Located at a place with terraced fields, lush green paddy fields and dense green pine forests, Rudradhari Falls and Caves in Kasauni have magnificent waterfalls which can be viewed, while trekking to Adi Kailash region here. As a natural attraction, the falls impinge the valley, which flow from their as rivers and small springs. This place is related with Lord Shiv (Rudra) and Lord Vishnu (Hari). The Shiv Temple at Someshwar is seen nearly embracing the waterfalls around here. The caves are also very impressive and natural.
