Mount Abu

Mount Abu is the only hill station of the royal state of Rajasthan. It is believed that it is a splendid gift of nature to Rajasthan, as it is hard to believe that the arid region of Rajasthan is blessed by a relatively cool climate of Mount Abu. The old name of Mount Abu was ‘Arbudanchal’. Built around a beautiful lake, Mount Abu is one of the most preferred and popular tourist destinations in Rajasthan to get a relief from the scorching heat and hot winds blowing in the desert.

Situated on the Aravalli Mountain ranges Mount Abu serves you with the mind blowing Mountain mist, exclusively amazing pleasant weather and lush green hills, which makes it perfect for the nature enthusiasts. Apart from its great scenic beauty, it is also an ideal place for pilgrimage with its splendid Jain Temples. It is located near to Ahmadabad, so people living in this city can spend a peaceful weekend in this beautiful hill station. This charming destination is worth to visit, at least once in a lifetime.

Location: It is located on the South-Western end of Aravalli Hills in the Sirohi District

Climate: With constantly pleasant climate, the winter nights are chilly. In summer season, the days are quite hot but the pleasant cool nights give a little relief.

Long coats and warm outsiders are preferable in winters. Light cotton clothes are best for summers.

Best time to visit: November-March

Places of Interest

Dilwara Jain Temple

Location: 2.6 kms from Mount Abu

Timings: Open all days of the week from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Dilwara Temple is one of the most exotic Jain temples. It was constructed by Vastupal Tejpal, between 11th and 13th centuries. This complex contains five Jain temples that are Parshvanath , Vimal Vasahi , Luna Vasahi , Pithalhar and Mahavir Swami. All these temples are famous for their astonishing marble architecture and the amazing interior. Here, you can will relish the superb marble carvings, excellent carved ceilings, enticing pillars and marvelous panels that represent the Hindu and Jain mythology. The flawless artwork of the temple makes it the major tourist attraction of Mount Abu.

Wildlife Sanctuary

Location: Shergoan Path, block no. 2, Rajasthan, 25 kms from Mount Abu Railway Station

Timings: Open all days of the week from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the Aravalli hills. In 1960, it was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary, which spreads in 288 sq. kms area. It is rich in a wide variety of flora and fauna. Sambhar, panthers, foxes, wild boar, bear, jungle cat and many other rare animals can be spotted here. No doubt, it is a fantastic place for animal lovers. Lots of birds’ species are also found here. You will be intrigued to see around 250 species of birds in this sanctuary, in which grey jungle fowl can also be seen. The pleasant and moderate climate of this sanctuary has its own beauty and charm.

Nakki Lake

Location: 1.1 km far from Mount Abu

Timings: Boating timing is from 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Nakki Lake is known as the ‘Love Lake of Mount Abu’. At the same time, it is the largest manmade lake in India, with the height of 1,100 meters. It is located at the splendid Aravali Range. As a great picnic spot, it is also famous for boating. As per Hindu mythology, it was carved out by Gods simply using their nail. That is why it is named as ‘Nakki’. According to an old tradition, on a festival in Shukla Paksha, many people consecrate their nails in the lake. There are many beautiful fountains which make the environment more pleasant. Nakki Lake is popular for another reason, as the ashes of famous Mahatma Gandhi were submerged in the lake water.

Toad Rock

Location: 1.7 kms from Mount Abu, near Nakki Lake

Best month to visit: During the monsoon season

Toad Rock is famous in Mount Abu for trekking and rock climbing. It is also known as the ‘Mascot of Mount Abu’. This rock is in the form of a toad. So, people call this place by the name of ‘Toad Rock’. It is located in the beautiful Aravali Mountains. This rock overlooks the famous Nakki Lake and it is said that it looks like it is keeping an eye on the Lake. This masterpiece is a beautiful and memorable picnic spot. Its peaceful environment and the breathtaking views make it one of the top tourist spots of Mount Abu. It is the most frequent visited point in the journey for all the visitors.

Guru Shikhar

Location: 15 kms away from Mount Abu, in the Aravalli Range  

Timings: Open all days of the week from 7:00 a.m.– 7.00 p.m.

Guru Shikhar is the highest peak of Aravali mountains, which is located at the height of 1,722 meters. It is a good place for nature lovers, photo fanatics and experience seekers. There is a divine temple of Guru Dattatreya here. As per Hindu mythology, he is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and his footprints can be seen enshrined on a stone here. You can see here the footprints of Swami Ramnathji also. You should also visit the exotic temple of Dattatreya’s mother, which is nearby.

This splendid Shikhar is the highest point of Mount Abu. It is the place from where you can get a beautiful amazing view of the entire region and splendid natural scenery. Make sure to visit this place as it is truly worth a visit.
