Ranikhet is a famous tourist destination of Uttarakhand. It is situated at a height of 1,869 meters above ocean level inside the western pinnacles of the Himalayas. This cantonment town comprises of lavish greenery and thick forests with a diversified variety of beautiful plants and grand trees like Deodar, Oak, Pine trees and many more. People also call it by the name of ‘Queen’s Meadow’. Ranikhet has a fascinating story about its name. Many years ago, this place was administrated by king Sudhardev. His Queen Padmini liked this place so much that she asked the King to build a living quarter here. In order to impress the Queen, the King gave the place the name of ‘Ranikhet’ and gifted it to the Queen.
Location: It is located in the Almora District of Uttarakhand.
Climate: The atmosphere stays chilly cold in winters and lovely in summers. In the month of January and December, you can relish beauteous snowfall here also.
Pack your bag with light cottons and woollens for the evenings in summers. But you will have to wear heavy woollens in winters.

Chaubatia Garden
Location: 10 kms from Ranikhet
Timings: Open all days from 7.00 a.m.- 7.00 p.m.
Chaubatia Garden is widely renowned for its Apple Orchards, which is located near Ranikhet. It is spread over 600 acres area. It is extremely popular for its broad plantations of yum and delicious apples, apricots, plums and peaches. This place is also known by the name of ‘Orchard Country’ for its government garden and juicy fruits. You can see over 200 kinds of exotic flowers and mouth watering fruits. At the time of the main season, lots of tourists fetch up to see this garden. The Fruit Research Centre and the Government Apple Garden are the other alluring spots around Chaubatia Garden. It also offers a pleasant view of the surrounding hills of the Himalayas.
Jhula Devi Temple
Location: 7 kms from Ranikhet on the Ram Mandir route
Timings: It is open all days from 6.00 a.m.- 8.00 p.m.
Jhula Devi Temple is an ancient eighth century temple, which is devoted to Goddess Durga. The idol of the Deity sits on a wooden "Jhula", so the temple was named as 'Jhula Devi Temple'. As per the nearby people legends, the icon of Goddess Durga was found by a shepherd as per the direction of Maa Durga herself, who came in his dream. The temple is located at the exact same place, where the statue was found. The unique element of this sanctuary is a group of thousands lovely bells. It is trusted that the Deity concedes the wish of the devotees, who binds a bell on the sanctuary wall.
Bhalu Dam
Location: 3 Kms from Chaubatia Garden, 11 kms from Ranikhet
Timings: Open all days from 7.00 a.m.- 7.00 p.m.
Bhalu Dam is a little artificial lake, which was built by the British Government in 1903. It is a prestigious picnic and camping spot of Ranikhet. The natural beauty of this place is outstanding. You can enjoy the breathtaking view of the royal Himalayan Range from this point. There is a small but wonderful garden, which is located close to the dam. The cool wind, the charming voice of beautiful birds and the marvellous view of the snow-covered valleys make this area one of the best holidaying spot. It is an ideal place for the nature enthusiast people. The main benefit of this place is that you can visit the dam site throughout the year.
Majkhali
Location: 12 kms from Ranikhet
Timings: Open daily from 7.00 a.m. – 7.00 p.m.
Majkhali is a marvellous sightseeing point which is situated on Almora- Ranikhet Street. The great view of the superb Sonya pinnacle of the Himalaya Mountains is commendable. The place is famous for another rare view of Nanda Devi and Mount Trishul, which can be easily visible from this point. Majkhali is blessed with acalm and a cool atmosphere. Visitors can also go to the famous Kali Temple that is located near Majkhali. There is also a nursery here, which is the home of a diversified range of flora and fauna.
Sitlakhet
Location: 30 kms from Ranikhet
Best month to visit: May to October. It can be visited any time.
Sitlakhet is a paradise for nature lovers. This beautiful place is located in the middle of Ranikhet and Almora. Lots of orchards, relaxing cool winds and its fabulous views make it wonderful place for picnics. It offers a spectacular view of the snow-covered Himalayan range absorbed in the changing shades of the rising Sun in Sitlakhet. The view of the rising Sun is really awesome and its beauty cannot be depicted in words. There is also a beautiful temple of Syahi Devi here. You can also visit a natural spring, which is around 10 kms from this place.
