Sunderbans (West Bengal)
Sunderbans is a Heritage National Park which is located in West Bengal. Basically, it is a part of the largest delta of the World, which is formed by the great rivers- Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna. This group of small enchanting islands is near the Bay of Bengal. Some areas of Sunderbans come under the territory of Bangladesh.
This place is well-known for the World’s largest Mangrove Forests. It is said that the name ‘Sunderbans’ may have come from the Sundari Trees, present here. This paradise for nature lovers and the house of some rare species of birds and animals is the largest National Park and Tiger Reserve in India. It was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Location: It is located at the Southern tip of West Bengal touching the Arabian Sea, 131 kms from Kolkata
Climate: Summer season is very hot and winter season is mild cool. You can wear light cotton clothes in summers. Wear normal winter wears.
Best time to visit: Sunderbans is open from September-March for visitors. If you want to have a look at the Royal Bengal Tigers, then you should visit the place during summers, from April-June, when the Tigers come out to search or water. Otherwise, the best time to visit here ifs from December-January.

Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary
Location: Located between Gomti river and Peechkali river, 130 kms from Kolkata
Timings: Open every day from 7.00 a.m.- 5.00 p.m.
Sajnekhali Sanctuary is very popular for its huge variety of bird species. It is a home of lots of dazzling colorful birds. You can enjoy the beauty of rare birds like Northern Eagle Owl, Falcons, Lap-wings, Whimpers, Kingfishers, White Bellied Sea Eagle, Plovers and many more. You can also visit the exquisite Shark Pond, the fabulous Mangrove Interpretation Centre and the enticing Turtle Hatchery in this sanctuary.
Kanak
Location: Inside Sunderbans National Park
Timings: Open all days of the week from 7.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
Kanak is a Sanctuary Beach, where you can see a large variety of Olive Ridley Turtles. These turtle usually thrive in the beaches and the shallow water to breed, after covering a long distance. It is believed that the Turtles travel a distance of about 100 kms from the sea mouth to the Sunderbans.
The natural beauty of this place is outstanding and worth visiting.
Bhagatpur Crocodile Farm
Location: It is situated adjoining to the Lothian Island, on the banks of Saptamukhi Estuary
Timings: Open all days of the week from 7.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
The only crocodile project in West Bengal, Bhagatpur Crocodile Project is a hatchery for estuarine crocodiles. You can watch biggest estuarine crocodiles at this place. The tours for this location are specially arranged by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Here, you will be intrigued to see crocodiles of different ages. Along with the crocodiles, the Batagur Baska species of tortoise are also a big attraction of this place. The thick Mangrove forests will also enchant your mind and soul.
Piyali
Location: 72 kms from Kolkata, close to Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali and Netithopani through waterways
Best month to visit: November to February
Piyali is a small and wonderful island, where a tiny river named as ‘Piyali’ flows, passing by exquisite paddy green fields and it congregates with Malta River in West Bengal. The calm and attractive Piyali is a perfect destination for boating, by which you can also enjoy the beauty of the rich fauna and flora. You can spend some time to get relaxed at this place. Tiger reserve

Tiger Reserve is one of the most prominent attractions of Sunderban. It is the home of the great Royal Bengal Tigers. Sunderbans is famous for its Tiger population of 270 Tigers according to the latest estimates. Journey to Sunderbans cannot be completed without visiting this mind blowing place.
