Cologne Cathedral

Timings: From November-April, open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. From May-October, open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Cologne Cathedral is situated at the centre of the Cologne’s old town. This massive Gothic structure can hold near about 20,000 people. Lots of Christian devotees come here, as this holy place holds the Three Wise Man’s remains. In 1996, it was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the highest spire, you can get the panoramic view of Cologne. It is a famous building for German Catholism. The Twin Towers of the Church are very high. Its design resembles with the Amiens Cathedral. There is a very large statue of St. Christopher here. Germanic character is reflected through its unique architectural style. The shrine of the Three Kings is made of silver and bronze and is decorated with exclusive ornaments, unique gemstones and beauteous enamels. There are 11 church bells, four of which belong to the medieval period.
Koelner Zoo

Koelner Zoo retains the title of most modern Zoological Garden. It was established in 1860. It has a marvelous collection of 500 different species of animals, which includes predators and aquarium also. Its objective is to preserve those animals who are becoming extinct. Lemur and Bonobos are the primates here. Pink pigeon, red crowned crane, Meller's duck are some of the endangered species of birds displayed here. The Zoo's complex has a largest Elephant Park and also a free flight Rainforest Hall. For animal lovers, this zoo is like heaven on earth. Besides this, the aquarium with sea urchins, corals, starfishes, anemones and sea horses are worth seeing.
Historic old town

Historic old town is located in the central district of the city. There is a network of streets with old historical buildings. Alter market and Meumarket are the two most popular markets at the centre. These are the handicrafts and trade markets. It is the relaxing place where you can stroll around the narrow alleyways. It provides a great panoramic view of the great St Martin Church. It is very much affected by World War II but after that it was restored. Fragrance Museum is located in the Innenstadt district of Cologne. It was established in 1709. John Maria Farina is the eldest factory of fragrance. Here you can get insight into the process of producing perfumes. Also the evolution and history of perfumes is well displayed in the pictures. In 1709 first water fragrance was formed and named as Eau De cologne. If you want to develop your own self made fragrance then the Museum provides you the opportunity also. Chocolate museum was founded by Hans Imhoff on 31 October 1993. This Museum provides detail insight into the entire history of chocolate from its origin to its production methods. Every year near about 6.75 lakhs tourist come at this place. 3 meter tall chocolate fountain is the major attraction of this place. There are antique silver bowls and porcelain which were used for drinking chocolates. From small miniature versions of the chocolate forming machines you can easily observe the process of production.
