The Meteora is the most important and the biggest group of Monastries in Greece, after Mount Athos. This 14th century second biggest Christian monastery is a prime example of engineering with minimal resources. Dedicated to the first and all the monks who worked and worshiped at this place, this sacred monastery will make you wonder “How did they make it?”. Varlaam monastery is the place of worship of the holy monks from the 15th century. This monastery was built by two priest-monk brothers, Hosioi Theophanes and Nectarious the Apsarades in the honor of Agioi Pantes in 1541-1542.
Monastery of Áyios Nikólaos Anapafsás (St. Nicholas)

Dedicated to St. Nichola,s this small monastery was founded in the 14tch century. It is closest to the Kastraki village, from where you have to follow a steep upward path and then the steps to reach the Monastery. This exotic Monastery is famous for its unique frescoes with beautiful paintings of Christianity.
The most unique feature about this Monastery is that it is built vertically on floors, with one level on top of the other level because of the limited surface of the rock. An in-built staircase makes accessibility to all the floors possible.
Monastery of Roussanou
Location: Meteora, Kalampaka, Greece

Dedicated to St. Barbara, this16th century Monastery is made on a small rock and in order to reach, it you have to cross an old wooden bridge. It is more easily reachable than other monasteries because it is located at a lower elevation. The Monastery has the exquisite church, splendid guest quarters and exotic exhibition halls, along with the rare ancient holy relics and manuscripts. The Monastery is intriguing as it is well decorated and the frescoes look spectacular.
