Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm is a popular tourist destination in Sweden. In Spanish, ‘Stockholm’ means ‘Loy Island’. It is also called the ‘Venice of the North’ and the ‘City between the Bridges’. Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden. Stockholm is located on the South-East of Sweden, covering over 14 islands and more than 50 bridges. The metro of Stockholm is famous for the station decorations and is called the ‘Longest Art Gallery’ in the World. It is a significant Global City and is also world's cleanest city. Swedish culture here involves coffee drinking. You can visit various roadside cafes to enjoy a cup of coffee.

The city is well connected with The Tunnel Bana underground railway system. For culture enthusiasts, Stockholm offers a lot of art galleries and diversified Museums. Vasa Museum

Location: Galarvarvsvagen, 14 Stockholm, on the island of Djuragarden

Timings: Open daily from 1st June – 31st August: 8.30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Open daily from 1st September – 31st May: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., on Wednesday: 10:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.

On New Year’s Eve, open from 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

The museum is closed on 1st January and 23rd -25th December
Vasa Museum is the famous Museum situated on the Djurgarden Island. It is a very frequently visited museum and near about 1 million tourists visit here in a year. Vasa is the only warship of 17th century, which is preserved till now. It is 69 meters long. This vast ship sank in 1628 on the voyage and in 1961 that is after 333 years, it was salvaged. Experienced carpenters, researchers and archaeologists did efforts to restore the ship. Various exhibitions are held here to tell about the history of Vasa. Carved sculptures on the ship offer its enthralling beauty. A movie was also created on Vasa. There is also an exotic restaurant here. There is an exhibition, which depicts the life on the board.

Gamla Stan (old Town)

Gamla Stan is a beautiful place of historical background. The word ‘Gamla’ means ‘Old’ and ‘Stan’ means ‘Town’. Gamla Stan has beautiful sights, exotic cafes, admirable attractions, refreshing boutique shops and exciting restaurants. To know about the culture of Stockholm, this is the best place. Labyrinth like structure of the narrow streets is the reflection of the medieval period. You can also buy beautiful and rare gifts, handicrafts and souvenirs. Julmarknad, the Royal palace and the Nobel Museum are also here. The greatest Royal Palace of Stockholm is beauteous in its architecture. Marten Trotzigs Grand is the narrowest pathway of Gamla stand, with the width of 90 centimeters. The main pathway of this place is Vasterlanggatan and Osterlanggaton. There is a large square named Stortorget of Gamla Stan, which enhances its beauty.

Djurgården meaning ‘Animal Park’ is a national Swedish City Park in the heart of Stockholm

Timings: In the main season, open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Djurgarden is a beautiful recreational spot. A lot of people come here to spend their peaceful time. This is a lush green Island, where tourists come for picnic, bike rides and lonely walks. There is a delightful organic Café here, Rusendals Tradgard that will boost up your mind. You can easily stroll around the area of coffee cafes, snake bars, hotels and restaurants. Skansen museum

Location: Djurgardsslatten, Stockholm, Sweden

Timings: open at 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, however closing time may vary

Skansen is situated on the Royal Djurgarden. It was the first open air museum of the world. It was founded by Arthur Hazelius in 1891. Butterfly garden, Alhambra courtyard, Blueberry forest are the beauties to be admired here. This Museum itself contains a splendid zoo, charming restaurants, beautiful shops, lush green gardens, huge forests and 150 different buildings. Moose, Wild Boar, Grey Owl and Wolves can be spotted in this zoo. It is one of the favorite tourist destinations. Lucia,

The City Hall (Stadshuset)

Location: Hantverkargatan, Stockholm

Timings: Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Saturday and Sunday

The City Hall is a beautiful artistic structure. Artist Ragnar Ostberg had designed this place. Near about 8 million bricks were used to construct this wonder. Nobel Prize banquet is organized at this site. Its complex involves beauteous ceremonial halls, conference rooms, delightful food restaurants and office rooms. There is a beautiful blue hall, also called the ‘Dining Hall’. There is a ‘Golden Hall’, constructed with 18 million golden tiles. But this place can only be visited through a guided tour. The City Hall Tower is raised to 350 feet from the sea level and in the middle of the tower, there is a City Tower Museum. To retain the charming memories of this place, you can also buy gifts and souvenirs from the city Hall shops. No doubt, this is a must visit place.
